Pinellas County Wage Theft & Recovery Ordinance
Chapter 70 – Human Relations Code

What is wage theft?
Failure to pay earned wages, including PTO, vacation, or sick pay. Examples: underpayment, no overtime, missed breaks, or taking tips.

Who can file a complaint?
Any employee working for a covered employer in Pinellas County.

Who is considered an employee?
A person performing work for an employer in Pinellas County (not including independent contractors). Includes work outside the county if it benefits an employer within.

Who is a covered employer?
Any individual or entity acting in the interest of an employer within the county.

What is non-payment?
Wages not paid within a reasonable time after they are due, including PTO, vacation, or sick pay.

Can I file anonymously?
No. Contact information and participation are required.

Will my employer be informed?
Yes. Employers are contacted to resolve the issue.

What if I’m fired for complaining?
Retaliation is unlawful and should be reported.
